Mullion Nursery opened in September 2011 and is managed by YMCA Cornwall. Our highly trained and experienced staff are committed to the wellbeing of every child in our care. We develop trust, support and cooperation between home and nursery. We respect each child as an individual and understand that children develop at their own pace. We aim to encourage children to learn and develop in the three prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication and Language; Physical Development. These three areas provide a firm foundation for children to build upon. The nursery offers both indoor and outdoor activities that encourage development in literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.
We believe children learn through playing and exploring so we support our active learners by offering purposeful, interesting activities, encouraging children to have a go and to find ways to achieve what they set out to do. Staff use sustained shared thinking and open ended questions to encourage children to think through their own ideas by making links and by making their own choices.
Our staff to child ratios are set to meet the needs of the children attending:
- 2 year olds – one member of staff to 4 children
- 3 and 4 year olds – one member of staff to 8 children
Mullion Nursery has been awarded a Nippers’ Nutrition Level 2 certificate recognising our high standards of food prepared by the Crafty Slice cafe in Mullion, physical activity through our outdoor play provision (free flowing indoor/outdoor), promotion of dental health, accident prevention, emotional health & wellbeing.
Our nursery is Ofsted registered and at our first inspection we were proud to have been rated as “Good”. Since then we have continued to improve upon all that we do. To read our latest Ofsted report for YMCA Mullion Nursery, please click here.
