Support we offer regarding children’s health and wellbeing
YMCA Mullion Nursery prides itself on being a friendly and welcoming setting. Staff recognise the importance of forming strong bonds between home and the setting and the forming of strong attachment bonds between carer and child. Staff are good role models for the children, understanding the importance of consistency, working closely as a team and with parents. The nursery is part of the Nippers Nutrition programme. The children enjoy a varied and healthy diet and grow their own vegetables and herbs to use at snack time. We have a daily routine which is flexible and adaptable to the children’s needs. Staff are aware of individual children’s needs and adapt activities appropriately. The voice of the child is important in the nursery and they are encouraged to make choices and communicate their feelings. We do this by promoting choice of child-led activities. A library book loan so children can choose a book to share with home and we invite parents to complete update feedbacks on children’s like/ interests termly. The Thrive programme Making Sense training has supported us in adopting strategies to meet the needs of the individual child. We also ensure physical outdoor activity takes places throughout the day so that children can be physically active outside in the fresh air and explore and play in our wonderful outdoor area. We also promote lots of dancing and singing indoors using the Sticky Kids programme.
